How God Wants You to Approach Work or Doing Your Work

Oftentimes, when we have ambition and dreams, we lose sight of our reverence to God and make our work our idol. When this happens to us, not only do we become shrouded in darkness, but we also give in to the temptation of our worldly desires. With this, God calls upon us to work for His name and His mission, rather than our own inherent desires.

When we work for our own achievements and selfishness, we come out empty in the end. Our vain success makes us want to strive for more and more when instead we should be serving God and acting on His mission as Christians.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

- Genesis 2:15

We were into this world, created in God’s image and likeness. He created us to work and take care of His creation and to become better people through our work. All life, culture, and work reflect the beauty and glory of God as emphasized in the bible.

No matter what our occupation is, work should be rooted to glorify God and his teachings.

“Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.”

- Deuteronomy 15:10

We must approach work with an honest and righteous heart, so we become God’s manifestation in the work that we do. When we do work that involves teamwork with others, let us treat them with respect and compassion as God would have wanted us to. Let us be walking examples of His love with every interaction we have with others.

When we are tasked to do leadership roles, we should lead by good example. As God said in His scripture, he says we must not take advantage of the people who work for us.

“Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.”

- Deuteronomy 24:14

Regardless of their race or beliefs, we must embody Jesus’ example of annandale baptist church acceptance and love. When conflicts arise in the workplace, walk in the path of righteousness rather than your pride and ego. Do not let anger cloud your judgment in the workplace. Instead, turn to God for guidance and allow Him to lead you to a better resolution.
